Choices

Unknown moments:

Thoughts of what could have been

A different path

Choices are a funny thing

Hard to take back

You’re left alone, wondering

What another life could have been

Unknown memories:

If you had stayed, or walked away

Would you be who you are today?

Left with a memory

Of you, as someone else

could it have been more

If you listened to yourself?

Voices that warned you

But, your heart never had a chance

Broken and used up

standing dismayed, with empty hands

Unknown moments:

Would it be any better - than now, whatever this is?

No one really wants to know

The memories can play tricks

on what your mind recalls

Was it even real or a fantasy of a dream,

that never really happened before

surreal poetry

I feel this too. Sometimes I go down that road of what could have been, but I have to stop myself. We can't change the past, unfortunately. Beautiful words, thanks for sharing.

I felt that so hard. It's difficult to go down the road of what-ifs. Hugs to you :) Beautiful and raw, nicely said.
