The Unforgettable Dream

By: Mathew Howland

By Stories From The DarkPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

I had a dream so vivid and bright

It was like nothing I'd seen before

I flew through the sky with all my might

My body felt weightless, I couldn't ignore

The colors were vibrant, the air was sweet

I danced with the clouds, it was such a treat

I soared over mountains and through the seas

The world was my playground, full of ease

But then the dream took a sudden turn

I was falling, plummeting, my heart did yearn

To return to the sky and the freedom it brought

But alas, I woke up and the dream was naught

I tried to hold on to the feeling of flight

But it slipped through my fingers, a distant sight

So I closed my eyes and took a deep breath

And hoped that the dream would visit again

And visit it did, on that very same night

But this time it was different, a strange, eerie sight

The colors were dark and the air was cold

I felt a shiver run down my spine, uncontrolled

I flew through a forest, the trees were bare

The moon was full, but it gave off no glare

I heard a voice, it was faint and distant

But I knew it was calling, I couldn't resist

I followed the voice, it led me astray

To a clearing in the forest, where I saw a sway

Of shadows, moving and swirling in the dark

I felt a sense of dread, a sudden spark

Of fear that made my heart race and pound

I tried to turn and run, but I was bound

To the spot, unable to move or look away

From the shadows that seemed to dance and sway

And then the voice called out my name

It was a voice I knew, but it wasn't the same

It was twisted and distorted, filled with malice and hate

I knew then that I had to escape

I gathered all my strength and broke free

I flew through the air, as fast as I could be

I left the forest and the shadows behind

And soared through the sky, my heart full of shine

I woke up panting and drenched in sweat

But the memory of the dream lingered, I couldn't forget

The feeling of fear and the twisted voice

It stayed with me, I had no choice

But to confront the dream and the shadows within

To face my fears and let the light shine in

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes

And let the dream take me to the skies

I flew back to the forest, ready to face

The shadows that lurked in that hidden place

And as I flew, the colors became bright

The air was sweet and the moon shone light

I flew to the clearing and saw the shadows sway

But this time, they didn't scare me in any way

I saw the fear and the pain that lay beneath

The masks they wore, so full of deceit

I reached out my hand and the shadows recoiled

But I didn't back down, I stood my ground

I spoke to them softly, with love and care

And slowly, they began to lay bare

The fears and doubts that had held them back

They told me their stories, there was no lack

Of pain and heartache, of struggles and strife

But I listened with kindness and offered life

I told them of hope and the power of love

I showed them the light that shone from above

And slowly, the shadows began to fade

They thanked me and vanished, their masks unwrapped

I flew back to the sky, my heart full of peace

The dream had showed
