The Twin in the Dark

A Father’s Descent into Nightmares

In the clutch of midnight, silence slithers,

A father huddles, dread creeping like lizards.

Two cribs lie still, the air thick with fright,

But one twin’s laughter haunts the night.

-

“Help me, Daddy!” the tender voice quakes,

While the other whispers, as the stillness breaks.

“Come play with me,” it taunts, sweet as sin,

A siren’s call from the depths within.

-

He moves closer, heart racing with fear,

As flickering shadows draw the dark near.

One child gazes, wide-eyed and pure,

While the other grins, a predator’s lure.

-

The air grows heavy, laden with dread,

His thoughts spiral deep, as terror spreads.

One twin shudders, clutching at night,

The other stands waiting, hunger in sight.

-

“Don’t trust the dark one!” the good twin pleads,

But the other’s laughter sows twisted seeds.

“Let’s play a game, it’ll be such fun!”

A melody of malice, where nightmares run.

-

The father’s mind fractures, reality blurs,

The innocent whispers dissolve in the purrs.

“Why are you so quiet?” he gasps, feeling lost,

While the dark one only smiles, counting the cost.

-

“Together forever,” the dark twin sneers,

“While you wither and break, I’ll erase all your fears.

I’ll take your sweet boy, while you never know,

Which one is gone, as I steal the show.”

-

With every tick of the clock, dread amplifies,

The walls close in, filled with anguished cries.

“Help me, Daddy!” the good twin screams,

But the other just chuckles, unraveling seams.

-

In a flash, the dark twin springs from the bed,

A creature of nightmares, alive and undead.

It lunges for the father, claws like knives,

Rending through sanity, where innocence dies.

-

“Look at me!” it snarls, voice cold as stone,

“I’ll show you true terror; you’re never alone!”

The good twin watches, eyes wide with fright,

As shadows envelop them, swallowing light.

-

“Which one is real?” the father’s voice wails,

Both twins are reflections of twisted tales.

The dark one shrieks, a sound that derails,

As it drags the good one down shadowy trails.

-

“Join me in darkness, embrace your demise,

We’ll feast on your soul, beneath blood-red skies!”

In the depths of the room, the good twin recedes,

While the dark one’s laughter plants bitter seeds.

-

In a final moment, sanity shatters,

The father is pulled where the blackness flatters.

The room spins wildly, each breath a fight,

As he gasps for his child, consumed by night.

-

But the good twin is gone, swallowed by the dark,

While the dark one grins, a twisted remark.

“Now you are mine,” it whispers, a jeer,

“Forever together, just you and your fear.”

-

In dawn’s sickly glow, the father stands still,

Trapped in a nightmare, hollow and ill.

Each night the shadows return with a grin,

As he faces the horror of what lies within.

-

One twin is lost, but the other remains,

A wretched echo of love turned to chains.

In the heart of his home, where nightmares reside,

The father’s soul crumbles, as darkness collides.

This is truly a frightening, creepy psychological thriller that should only be read under the blankets with a flashlight. Great work.

  • "The Twin in the Dark" delves into the complexities of identity and the shadows that often accompany our innermost thoughts. In this piece, I explore the duality within ourselves—the light that guides us and the darker aspects we often try to hide. Inspired by the struggles we all face in reconciling these opposing forces, I aim to evoke a sense of introspection in the reader. This poem invites you to embrace your own "twin" and reflect on how our darkest moments can lead to profound understanding and growth. Thank you for reading, and I hope you find a connection within these lines.
