The Truest Gift

Unwrapped

Nintendo, Power Rangers, He-Man, or G.I. Joe;

The plastic gifts of Christmases OLD!

I'd play, they'd get lost, or sold, or break;

There'd be NEW toys NEXT YEAR, for Christmas' Sake!

Where are toys NOW that I'm grown,

and can BUY what it is I need to own?

My Christmas list is shorter this year,

But deeper still what I want is more dear.

The Christmas Card list is open again,

Heartfelt messages to deliver to friends.

Will I receive each correspondence in turn?

Probably not; the initial surprise card is well earned.

Family time now means slightly more

As former mainstays only exist in Christmas's yore.

The memory of those parted remain in my heart,

And the spirit of the season may never depart...

One final message before I lose sight:

"Merry Christmas to all; and to all a good night."

    Relatable 😅 Adulting over Christmas is different than being a kid for sure.
