The Tragic Cost

Of The Human Condition

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 7 months ago 1 min read

**

When freedom is too much to ask

from molted feathers dabbed with wax

Such is the tale of Icarus

knowing enough and ignorance

Soaring to heights he'd never known

to places men had never flown

Forgetting self and words of warning

the ache for power became alarming

Transcending human limitations

rising too high into the heavens

The son and sun, a fateful pair

feathers and man fell through the air

Fathers and sons bring complications

the rise and fall from expectations

The need to please, AND over ambition

can lead to painful consequences

Leaving the lessons to be learned

when pushed too far, you might get burned

I enjoyed your rhyming poem about Icarus… especially: “ The son and sun, a fateful pair feathers and man fell through the air Fathers and sons bring complications the rise and fall from expectations”

Like a distilled master’s class on the meaning of the story and how it still applies. Well done!
