The Time I Almost Drowned

A Sensory Retelling of My NDE…

By Kenneth cruzPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Chlorine fills my nostrils, burning bleach scorching the innards of my nose

Clawing at cold waters, fingers turning numb now, shriveled like prunes, my arms ache as they flail to no avail

Blue wavy waters, an empty pool… white shiny sides but no one in sight, just deeper blue and bubbles spewed, could this be my final adieu

An empty echo, sound from no direction, water echoing all around reminds me of when I was a baby safe and sound

Cold water fills my throat, burning, scratching, clawing as if I swallowed a cat, I’m choking now, and sure that I’m going to drown

Not a fan of deep water here because I've had my near drowning experience. You portrayed the sensation as I recall it. Nice entry into the challenge!

  • Omggg, that's such a terrible experience! I'm so glad you're okay now

You've aptly described a multitude of sensations I definitely never wish to experience. Well done and creative response to the challenge.
