The Third Heaven
(beyond the heaven of the air and the heaven of the stars)
(This poem was created for submission to the Eclipse Vocal challenge in April 2024. The challenge required contestants to write an acrostic poem based on the word e-c-l-i-p-s-e, and I was inspired by my own experience viewing the total eclipse of the sun that month- from which the above image was taken.)
Empyrean, come closer
Contain that crescent / that corona / that cold comedown
Look, for heaven’s sake, see how
Inanna ascends, integrates, inch by inch
Pulls the moon up (and over)
Sees the sun stare (as ever)
Everything connected, everything magic (ever over and over)
