The Tale of the Girl

A poem of a little girl left alone with her thoughts.

The night spoke under the light of the moon.

The crickets croaked, filling the silence with bursts of sound.

The invisible wind blew silently, whisking leaves,

making them dance along the ground.

There sat a little girl,

upon the chill, solid pavement.

A soft sigh left her lips,

showing her distress.

Could there be a problem on her mind?

Why does she sit so calmly staring into the depths of the night?

A tough problem indeed,

a question she didn't know how to answer.

The question that kept her mind awake was the question,

"Who am I?"

She stared at her hands, moving them back and forth,

wiggling her fingers open and shut.

She wondered how they moved.

Her eyes slowly slid downward,

stopping when they hit her feet.

She pushed them down into the ground,

and she stood.

She wondered how her feet held her,

and slowly she sat back down.

The rest of the night, she sat just there,

wondering how her body works.

She sat so long that the sun came up,

and she saw magnificent colors mixed across the sky.

She slowly stood, and as she walked away,

she found her answer.

I AM BEAUTIFUL!
