The Sun was Yellow Once

Message from Koel bird in the Black Summer

By Judy BrightmanPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

The Sun was yellow once, so I heard

The tree said it shone yellow in the day

Mother told me the sky was blue

But she’s not here and it’s just not true.

They tell me rain will come one day:

What is that? I say.

Who amongst us, burned, singed and scarred,

Can know when the smoke and ash and cloud

Might lift and reveal another time

When blossoms grew and fruits were mine.

Do you not feel, humankind

The Earth’s pain and your division from mine?

Custodians you’re meant to be

but you’ve forgotten land and tree

In favour of house and lawn

What fools you are!

How were you borne?

I can sing you back to life

Should you be prepared for strife.

I can raise you to the stars

If you remember our connected hearts.

Cease the plundering of coal and gas

Look in the mirror - you’re the Ass!

Let go your greed and egoic mind

Come back home to love and kind.

Tread lightly now; you have a chance

For light to dawn and take a stance

For life on earth and all to heal.

Choose wisely now - or we have no deal.
