First Time Love With L-Plates

Now older wiser and a woman not a child

First Time Love With L-Plates

I loved you first with L plates on

nerves in knots, the engine wrong

I stalled on words, I turned too wide

unsure of where to sit my pride

You laughed, and I mistook the signs

took detours down your fault lines

I braked too late, I veered too fast

but still, you held me through the crash

That was then, and this is now

I’ve learned my route, I know the how

No second guess, no need to swerve

I give you all that you deserve

No half lit roads or halfway tries

no rearview glances, no white lies

I loved you first with heart on trial

but now, I love you with my style

With steady hands and open lane

not driven by the past or pain

No test to take, no need to stall

this time, I love you with my all

I am a woman now,

The 16 year old has grown

and learned to love ❤️

What a comparison of life, growing up and driving. Good job.

  • This was such a beautiful metaphor — raw, relatable, and full of growth. From nervous turns to steady love… what a journey. I’d love if you had a look at some of my work too!
