The Sun Has Changed Its Mind
It want to burn us all to ashes

The Sun Has Changed Its Mind
The sun has changed its mind, I swear
it used to kiss, now it devours
heat in the bones by eight a.m.
milk turns warm in twenty minutes
dogs drag shade like it’s a mattress
and sweat’s no longer shy
Nothing blooms, it bolts or burns
even weeds grow meaner
children sit with tongues half out
as if words might spark a flame
I walk slower now, but not from age
I wait for dusk like it’s a friend
but even dusk feels scorched and limp
no cool hand at my neck
just the weight of it all, again
They say it’s always been like this
that memory’s a liar, that July
has always cracked the ground
but I remember soft grass, don’t you?
not this brittle lawn of warnings
not skies that warn in orange codes
not birds gone mute by noon
The air is crowded with alarms
and no one opens curtains wide
curtains mean survival now
not style
Fans spin like threats
ice is currency
and sleep comes only
if you bribe it well
I think of winters like a myth
a bedtime tale we tell ourselves
while butter melts inside the fridge
and trees forget the names of leaves
Yes
the sun has changed its mind
and no one’s brave enough to ask
what for
Perhaps it was mankind that caused it
yeh I think it was our actions
maybe not the sun’s fault at all

I've been writing poetry since the age of fourteen. With pen in hand, I wander through realms unseen. The pen holds power; ink reveals hidden thoughts. A poet may speak truth or weave a tale. You decide. Let pen and ink capture your mind❤️

You’ve really captured the weight of climate anxiety with grace here.
This is an amazing poem for sure!!
How true you write. Hot, hot, hot all over the world. Good job.
