The Summit

Of sparrow

So there’s

A mountain

Tall and lush

With trees and flowers

Blooming down below

But at the top

Just one tree

Stands alone

Against the sky

Just one nest

Hidden

in the boughs

Carefully crafted

From hopes and dreams

With no- one home.

The nest is empty

Silent and still

Without the sparrow’s

Joyful trill.

The sparrow sings

In a hidden nest

On a mountain

Of sadness.

Its joyful song

Rings out

From the lone tree,

Spilling across

The land

Like a song

from the heavens

It knows not

That this mountain

Is of sadness

It knows

only to sing

A song

And the joy

Comes naturally.

From its tiny lungs,

Bursts forth

A song of wonder

And hope

And joy.

The little sparrow

Will stay and sing

On that

Distant mountain

Of sadness

Until it’s called

back

To its home

But for now, it’s content

To sing

Where it’s needed,

Always ready to

Move on to other

Mountain tops

Until every

Mountain of sadness

Rings with joy.

For, you see,

The little sparrow

Has a purpose

On that

mountain top

Of sadness

Sing, little sparrow…

Hearts are

Listening

Clinging

To every note.
