The Street With No Houses

No one lives in this street anymore

The Street With No Houses

A road unbroken by door or pane,

no chimneys cough, no voices strain.

Lamplight leans on empty stone,

casting shadows that stand alone.

No curtains stir, no footsteps fall,

just silence pressed against no wall,

No wall that holds no name, no past,

only echoes fading fast.

Who paved this stretch, who laid these lines,

if no one lives, if no one binds

their breath to brick, their weight to wood?

A street that never understood.

I see a street that should be part of a housing development that failed. No money, no houses. Yes, it could also be a bit haunting for one never knows who could be lurking around even around a barren street. Good job.

  • The imagery of a street without houses evokes a sense of emptiness and abandonment, almost as if it’s suspended in time. The stark contrast between the familiar idea of a street as a lively, inhabited place and its desolate version here gives the piece a melancholic yet powerful feel. It speaks to themes of loss, isolation, and the ghosts of what once was.
