"Oh, sweet singer of dreams and fairytales!

Would you play us a tune on this fair night?

Tell us of that lover of yours who sails

the Nightmare and gives us all a fright."

Why wish to hear a song of fear and woe

from I, the poet of your hope and joy?

Why not ask my lover himself to sew

a tale of his adventures, my sweet boy?

"Come little children, off you now to sleep,

and pray to me your sweet nightmares to keep."
