The Story of My Name

Villanelle of Regret

By Adam KolozettiPublished about a month ago 1 min read
Honorable Mention in Villanelle of Regret Challenge

I have forgotten the tale I forged in flame,

In dragon’s breath it was lost to the night;

I long to hear the story of my name.

Although it shines with the light of fame,

It consumes and blinds my dreams held so tight;

I have forgotten the tale I forged in flame.

The power of my story is too beautiful to tame,

Yet it dances soulfully just out of sight;

I long to hear the story of my name.

There is nobody but myself to blame,

I locked it away that fearful night;

I have forgotten the tale I forged in flame.

Stuck in the past I remain quiet and lame,

If only I was not afraid to face the blight.

I long to hear the story of my name.

Without my story I am forever the same,

Forever longing to shine so bright;

I have forgotten the tale I forged in flame,

I long to hear the story of my name.
