the storm chaser

oklahoma: on a monday

swirling death from the clouds

painted grey and green

a screaming siren warns for cover

miles away in the distance

a mobile fort rolling closer

certain danger it knows

will bring a great discovery

a few minutes go by

the small town looks abandoned

few cars line the streets

as everyone sits below waiting

the mobile fort drives closer

the spiral touches down

and heads closer to town

growing large and immense

it arrives

the fort stops on the street

placing a probe and retreats

before it comes any closer

a distance away

cameras are set up

a snuff film of architectural murder

for the news channels to devour

unaware

a look back

the crew is gone

as the spiral shifts close

all they could do

was stand there and stare

nowhere to run or hide

they were food for the spiral

the wind spoke their name

before they knew

they were inside the spiral

never to return

becoming another part

of what they ran from

becoming this

not like them

and then,

there was silence.
