The Sound of Blades

For one family, pain. For one family, hope.

From a distance the sound of blades

Cutting the air with their priceless cargo

Inside of concrete and glass and steel

The sound of blades is unheard

Still too far they are for the ear

The sound of blades approach

Stirring the air and the ground below

The palm trees sway the branches shake

Sound of blades finally heard

Close they are for the ear to hear

The sound of blades is here

Landing now on the roof

The trauma team stands by ready

Waiting for the child on death's threshold

Praying to God for a miracle to happen

The sound of blades heard below

Bringing a possible answer to prayer

Prayed for so long and so hard from the ICU

The chance of life where before ending

For a child standing on death's threshold

The sound of blades dims away

Its priceless cargo now unloaded

Down the elevator into the ICU

The child goes with an honor guard

Scared and alone is he

The sound of blades gone away

Its priceless cargo hidden away

From the ICU comes guilty hope

Of those surrounding a young girl

Scared and alone is she

The sound of blades now long gone

For one family, pain

For one family, hope

sad poetry
