The Snow Storm

A Memory from the beginning of my parents' separation

I told you I hated you,

and I would be lying,

if I said I was lying,

because the snow

and the stars

see the secrets we keep,

and mine are bittersweet.

The heat of the car

could not keep the cold out,

and I cried knowing

it could not freeze your heart

any more, like it did mine.

Miles of invisible road

could not make me forget

the home that you broke,

and the years gone by,

passing like the sun

handing the torch to his sister,

could not take away my anger

at how necessary it was.
