The Smooth Criminal
A dancer/singer extraordinaire
Amidst silence and expectant awe, the audience waits
As he stands, poised, basking in the foreglow of adoration
The smoothest criminal of them all....floating on air
Dances!
Wholly engrossed, I sit, lost in the graceful movements of the man
Watching him, mesmerized, as he slowly slithers across the floor
Arms unfolding gently, reaching, reaching, slowly falling
Elegantly, so smoothly, he glides in flawless grandeur
Unhurried, he twirls, his immaculately tailored form slithers
Like the slow deceptive form of that sleek, sly boa constrictor
He pounces, deflects, pauses, Moon Dances to perfection
Still. Graceful in his manliness, he breathes sounds of triumph
Deliberately, teasingly, he sheds his sequined, tasteful coat
He shimmies. Like the snake, he sheds the outer skin
Tosses it to the floor carelessly, not discarded...but
Beguiling, it awaits eager arms to caress its fame
The music crescendos. He glides one last time
The smooth criminal is finally ready
To steal the hearts of the world
For the very last deafening applause
Sophisticated, dignified, poised
He bows!
The crowd goes wild
He feels God-like in his adoration.
Now resting amidst that last 'Hoorah'
He bids us adieu and farewell!

Nice take on the challenge. I was lucky enough to see MJ in his prime. I was not a big fan - I went with a good friend at the time who was an enormous fan of him - but I do remember that it was an amazing show. I remember the showmanship and the adulation of the crowd and my friend fainting. His music though endures and that is testament to any great artist. Great tribute, great poem.
