The Silence I Keep

Verse 1
I bite my tongue like it’s gospel truth
Hold back storms that could split the room
You see calm, but you don’t see the war
I’ve mastered the art of saying no more
Pre-Chorus
Every word I don’t release
Is a kindness dressed in peace
But no one writes songs for restraint
Only for the ones who scream their pain
Chorus
I don’t get nearly enough credit in life
For the things I do not say
For the bridges I’ve saved from burning
And the ghosts I let fade away
You praise the loud, the bold, the brave
But silence has its own parade
I don’t get nearly enough credit in life
For the grace I give away
Verse 2
I’ve let go when I could’ve held tight
Chose mercy over being right
You call it quiet, I call it wise
But wisdom rarely wins the prize
Bridge
If you only knew the words I’ve buried
The truths I’ve softened, the rage I’ve carried
You’d see a hero in disguise
Not with medals, but with mindful eyes
Final Chorus
I don’t get nearly enough credit in life
For the things I do not say
For the storms I’ve turned to stillness
And the hurt I’ve tucked away
You cheer the ones who roar and fight
But silence is its own spotlight
I don’t get nearly enough credit in life
For the peace I choose each day
