The Shade of Emotion

a color for each feeling

White and black, light and dark;

These two differences are stark.

Soft and hard, strong and weak;

Once a valley and once a peak.

Joyful and sad, peaceful and scared;

Many are the emotions, so be prepared.

Like adding color to an old picture,

Emotions add variety to life’s mixture.

Life is full of opposite things,

That are manifest in every being.

Variety is truly the spice of life,

And sometimes there’s beauty in the strife.

But mental illness makes the difference strong,

And wild emotions come quickly along.

Once at calm, then at anxious;

The area between them is not spacious.

It’s like morning to evening in an hour,

Giving emotions so much power,

To influence actions for the worst,

When mindfulness should come first.

With mindfulness emotions turn beautiful.

The rainbow of moods, so powerful.

Each one useful in its own time,

Making existence something sublime.

Anxious when enemies come;

Content when the battle is won.

Sad when the friends are gone;

Cheerful when they come along.

Angry when injustice arrives;

Loving when justice survives.

Life is a waiting page:

With the colors of emotion, art is made.
