The Sea's Embrace

A solitary sailboat glides upon the open sea,

beneath an expanse of glorious blue,

canvas catching whisps of breeze,

dancing, stem to stern, on waves of azure hue.

*

Escaping quietly into the nowhere,

finding solace in the salty embrace,

guided by sun and star’s steady glow,

heralding the way with a tranquil grace.

*

In this moment, is nothing, everything,

journeying to places and parts unknown,

keel carving and slicing its way ahead,

leaving behind a world that was never quite home.

*

Miniscule microcosm, steadfast in its isolation,

navigating, dead reckoning, marking of time

over one horizon, then another and another,

passing days in search of the mariner’s rhyme.

*

Quietude, peace, uncharted destinations

Rock-a-by on the water, wild and free,

Sailboat, solitary, under siren’s charm,

Traversing where you were to where you will be.

*

Under canopies of clouds, of stars at night,

Voyaging from dusk to the new day’s light,

With compass and charts and the usual tools,

X marks the spot, but no end is in sight.

*

Yesterday is in your wake, each day a new course begins

Zigging, zagging, pitching, rolling, ever tacking into the wind.

This is so well written Randy! 'In this moment, is nothing, everything,' was such a powerful line. And the last line was my other favourite. Marvelous poem!
