The sand swallowed my heart,

Still I wait for it to be returned

The sand swallowed my heart,

grain by grain.

It slipped away,

into the tide.

I reached for pieces,

but the wind turned.

The waves pulled,

laughing at me.

I stood with salt,

burning my throat.

Was it my heart,

or was it me?

I called to the sea,

but nothing came.

Only its voice,

cold and endless.

The sky stretched wide,

gray and heavy.

Clouds pressed down,

covering the sun.

I felt the emptiness,

creep into my bones.

The shore was empty,

the world gone quiet.

I walked along sand,

leaving my footprints.

They vanished fast,

taken by waves.

Still I wait,

feet in the sand.

Will it return,

or leave me with echoes?

And when the tide falls,

will I find my heart,

or only the hollow

where it used to beat?

The wind whispers low,

carrying voices

that I cannot name.

I listen anyway.

Each grain of sand

feels like a memory

I cannot hold,

but cannot forget.

The waves rise higher,

pulling at my shadow.

I stretch my hands,

but nothing comes.

Night falls slow,

stars cold above.

The sea swallows sound,

and I remain.

Still I wait,

as always,

at the edge of everything,

for a heart that may never return

You could have quite the epic poem here. The ocean and beach do seem to have that effect on people. Great job.
