The Runway
Cleared For Takeoff

As I taxied toward the runway of life
My clearance in hand to proceed
This mile length of pavement was more like a wife
And led to some passion indeed
My life was full throttle, my engine is worn
The hallmark of how I was built
From threshold to glory, a legacy’s born
Not all of it done without guilt
The Highest Controller came calling on me
Aware of my methods and style
I give an account and enter a plea
For "pleasures" exceeding the mile
Now I’m rotating skyward, gear up and secure
I’ve exhausted the time in my cup
I'm leaving a partner, a kinship for sure
My runway’s completely used up
