There was a time when I did love a woman

A summer out upon the Texas plain

My mother, she had died when I was twenty

As for my father, never knew his name

Her daddy, he would take me on his horses

The mornin’ it gave way into a storm

As we rode on for miles

He turned to me and smiled

Saying, “Son, the reason I was born.”

Some people try to carry up their weight

Others try so hard to carry on

It ain’t about what’s lost

But something you will find

Oh, my son

Up here on the ride

The years have flown and I have lost that woman

Just like so many tears upon my life

It’s funny if it’s strange

But it comes to me in dreams

Asking, Son

"Did you ever learn to ride?"

Some people try to carry up their weight

Others try so hard to carry on

It ain’t about what’s lost

But something you will find

Oh, my son

Up here on the ride

It ain’t about what’s lost

It’s something you will find

Oh, my son

Up upon the ride
