The Rhythm of The Lake

Haiku and tanka inspired by life in the Tahoe Lake basin

Mountains reflected in Fallen Leaf Lake photo by K.B. Silver

Mountainside

Descending like rays

Clouds above Carson valley

Granite sands below

Tahoe Black

The birds are choking

What doesn’t fire consume?

The mountain remains

Tahoe Time

On my way today

I watched the birds as they played

I hiked ruddy trails

Sun passed, dirty, I arrive

Not late, I’m on Tahoe time

Tahoe White

Graceful sloping lines

Twisting snowy locks cascade

Face of powdered white

Ski Bunny

Snaking lines of white

Cut cross mountains clad in pine

Birch planks swishing by

Footprints in the Snow

Optic illusion

Foot-shaped depressions rise up

Crushing feet follow

Angel’s Snowball Fight

Sunlit showers charm

Snowballs falling from heaven

Prefabricated

Well Deserved Rest

Crystals on the fly

Vortex leading to the sky

Downy linen quilt

Spread across the resting earth

Like cradling insulation

Tahoe Grey

Perfect grey jewel

Dripping in silver nuggets

Dislodged they tumble

Thunder storm rolling over photo by K.B. Silver

Thunder Storm

Summer evening show

Family sweating and lolling

Clap, flash, splash, limb crash

Winter storm

Dirty crunchy snow

Needle litter pinecone mulch

Layers of powder

Tahoe Black

The birds are choking

What doesn’t fire consume?

The mountain remains

Tahoe Blue

Soul deep and sight wide

Tahoe blood‘s blue as water

Shades unlimited

Ice Blue

Tranquil frozen pool

Shallow, pebble-studded shore

Bright sapphire jewel

Celestial

Every shade of blue

Diaphanous cosmic gown

Embellished stardust

Sun-shower

Refreshing surprise

Raise eyes and hands heavenward

Water beats fire

Rainbow

Arcing spectral swipe

Effervescent ray of light

Mystical arbor

Gates to fairyland wonder

Reviving amidst new mist
