The Rain ruined the cake

The day God took you away

The Rain ruined the cake

I baked a cake for us to share

set out the chairs, the table bare

the plates were waiting side by side

for laughs and love you’d never hide

But skies grew dark, the storm broke through

the icing ran, the candles too

the rain fell hard on all I made

and washed our quiet plans away

I sat alone, the day turned grey

the guests were clouds, the sky was clay

no voice, no step along the way,

just silence where you used to stay

And in the storm I tried to pray

but you just never came that dreadful day

when God made plans to take you away.
