Halloween

The Pumpkin Babe

Once, long ago

On a dark All Hallows night

A Pumpkin hatched

With a shriek of fright

With pouring rain

And a lightning strike

Out from the pumpkin

Crawled a small tyke

This odd little thing

Shaped like a child

Was definitely not meek

And absolutely not mild

A head so round

With eyes so dark

It looked around

Its glare so stark

Crawling through the pumpkin patch

The creature let out a grunt

Watching as a rabbit hopped by

The creature began to hunt

Grabbing the rabbit by the ears

The bunny Squealed in fright

The creature opened its wides mouth

And took a hungry bite

Crawling here and there

It took what it did need

Can you believe this little thing

Grew from a tiny seed?

Wrapped in a little orange suit

A potato sack around his head

This mischievous little boy

Filled everyone with dread

What to call this creature?

Sam was his name

Death and destruction

And chaos was his aim

Sam was sent to tell us

What they don’t teach in schools

Things we all need to know

The Sacred Halloween Rules

Halloween is a special night

When the dead come back to life

But follow these rules my dear

And you will have no strife

Never blow out a pumpkin

Before the clock strikes midnight

If you do it earlier

You’ll get an awful fright

The candle should be lit all night long

To keep the dead away

By blowing out the candle

You’re inviting them to stay

When children come trick or treating

And knock upon your door

You must give them candy

Not one piece less or more

If you give them nothing’

Or don’t say trick or treat

Sam will wait in your bed

And feast upon your meat

Don’t go smashing pumpkins

The pulp crushed upon the ground

The shadows will disappear you

Before you make a sound

Don’t venture into the wood

Home of a monstrous creature

Or on a missing poster

Your face will feature

Always watch something scary

Upon the TV

Sam will be watching

Giggling with glee

Sit around a blazing fire

Tell a creepy tale

Scare each other half to death

Make sure you don’t fail

Do not disturb the dead

Let them enjoy all hallows night

But if you harass them

Prepare for a fight

These are the sacred rules

To enjoy this holiday

If you follow them all

Sam will only play

But little Sam is watching

And waiting every year

If you break a rule

He will destroy all you hold dear

And if you see him walking

Looking as gentle as a lamb

You’re warned, be careful and say

‘Happy Halloween Sam!’
