The Promise

To my little one

By Jennifer Ann TiptonPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

My precious one with eyes of blue

With rosy cheeks and dimple, too

My precious one you are so sweet

From downy head to wigglin' feet

My precious love, I'll hold you tight

From dawn of day to end of night

I'll sing to you a lullaby

To soothe your hurts and hush your cry

I'll watch you grow, my precious dear

And give you guidance while I'm near

I'll do as what a parent can

To guide you straight and lend a hand

My precious one, I'll fail you not

And give you answers you have sought

I'll teach respect and manners, too

And one day all will look to you

My precious love, you will be told

Mistakes are part of growing old

But these will matter not to me

For in my heart is where you'll be

My precious love, I'll give to you

All that I can, and more so, too

My precious love, for you, are mine

And in my eyes, you'll always shine

My precious love, forget me not

And all the things I have taught

Soon time will pass and I'll be gone
