The Princess and the Snake Prince

Till Death We Won't Part

The Princess and the Snake Prince

She danced in silk, a pale white glow,

beneath the torches’ trembling throw.

A whispered vow, a lover’s lie,

she never saw the serpent’s eye.

His voice, a hush of velvet sin,

coiled close enough to draw her in.

A kiss as cold as winter’s breath,

a vow that smelled of rose and death.

She traced his scars, his silver scales,

his whispered tales of love’s betrayals.

But poisoned love is love no less,

she shivered in his soft caress.

The night was long, the moonlight cruel,

she played her part, a willing fool.

One bite, one gasp, a whispered choke,

his love became the curse she spoke.

Now in the halls where echoes creep,

the princess sings in restless sleep.

Her lips are blue, her breath is stone,

his bride at last, his love alone.

The torches fade, the stars retreat,

cold coils wrap her dying heat.

No prayers, no dawn, no sweet release,f

just love that bites and will not cease.

The torches fade, the stars retreat,

cold coils wrap her dying heat.

No prayers, no dawn, no sweet release.

just love that bites and will not cease.

Now shadows writhe where vows were sworn,

her breath is ash, her body torn.

He grins, he waits, his fangs drip red,

his love is hers, and she is dead.

This is quite the different kind of love poem and good job.

It’s both heart wrenching and enchanting. Beautifully written.

  • The imagery of the snake prince and the doomed romance feels both enchanting and tragic—almost like an old folktale passed down with a warning hidden between the lines. I especially loved the way the rhythm and word choice built an atmosphere of both wonder and unease. The contrast between beauty and danger, love and deception, makes this a captivating read. Well done!
