The understanding of the basics of a healthy relationship is sometimes in perfect harmony with its complete distortion. The phony, you see, is that it is not benevolence and philanthropy that align people, but it is value that aligns them.

Business relations work well when worth equivalence is recognized, and one’s worth meets the other’s wants or needs. On the other hand, even if the characters take meaningful actions, if there is no self-interest from either side, then these actions can be ignored or downplayed.

Human beings interact basically for transactional purposes. Professionally, the relationship between people, as well as the relations between different companies whether big or small, depends on quid pro quo.

Despite the fact that honesty is good, one should not forget that everyone acts for his or her own benefit. Sometimes it is important to lower our standards to avoid pressure on the other party as this usually results in disappointments.

The best way of handling this problem is by learning to shift the attention from other people’s opinions to self-improvement. Education is one of the most valuable assets that should be invested in, career advancement should be sought and talents developed. This process of personal development improves your morale and at the same time adds value to you in the eyes of other people.

As already stated, true character is defined by what you do and not by what you plan to do. In this way, by focusing on self-actualization, you will meet genuine people whose respect and admiration you can gain in return. Don’t try to be all things to everybody or to make everyone like you; be yourself and accept everyone. This means that the best version of you is the genuine you, and not a ‘watered down’ version of yourself.
