Margins of the Heart

When numbers align, but life still teaches

By Michelle Liew Tsui-LinPublished a day ago 1 min read

Today is International Logic Day...a day we remember that logic governs all we do.

But what should reign at the centre of life's practicalities?

Sometimes the solution isn’t in the equations—it’s in the heart.

🧮❤️🧮❤️🧮❤️🧮❤️

Matt's gift, his blessing was the proof

Numbers that behaved -

Margins, symbols,trusted tools -

His exactness, never caved.

🧮❤️🧮❤️🧮❤️🧮❤️

A student's question, a loss of ground

He feels a sense of fear -

A firm equation, but sense not sound

And Hope, she would not steer.

🧮❤️🧮❤️🧮❤️🧮❤️

He ploughed through symbols, numbers, notes

But equations would not hold -

Then the answers a student wrote

Held the hidden truth, now told -

🧮❤️🧮❤️🧮❤️🧮❤️

Matt tweaked the signs, the formulae

The numbers that spoke too soon-

With tinges of soul that would stay

And keep them attuned.

🧮❤️🧮❤️🧮❤️🧮❤️

💖I read this through twice, once to feel the rhythm and resonance, and again to fully engage with the meaning. 💖I admire your use of assonance with the long 'oo' and 'ee' sounds. The rhythm plays like waves in my body; it creates a blue and melancholic flow that allows me to see beyond the surface.

Like Sandy I loved the cohesion of the heart and emotion with mathematics and science. Lovely poem, Michelle.
