The Price of Affection
A Cost Paid in Isolation, Manipulation, & Despair
You left your door wide open and invited me in.
I am here to stay so let the party begin.
I make you sweat, worry, and have you spreading yourself thin.
Losing yourself and everything you hold close
Through isolation and dragging you through the most.
Only to leave you when you are at your worst.
Uncomfortable in your own skin.
I make you feel what is like to hate yourself from within.
Doubt consumes you,
And I make you believe that
Love has betrayed you,
So I can push the narrative that
Your people have all but abandoned you.
I leave you weak and vulnerable.
Because manipulation only works best
When you’re confused and gullible.
But you believe me when I say “I love you”
Even when you know, it’s not true
Because I reinforce every thought that can be unkind and hurtful,
So I can fill your mind with my false rhetoric that
“Everyone hates you”
“And you’re better off with me”
“Because no one loves you more than I do”
Making you adhere to these statements
That roll off my deceitful tongue so easily.
Convincing you to stay in this dark room
Laying next to me
Underneath our covers
Wrapped in the sheets of depression
With no sign that you’ll recover.
From what I have done to you.
Making you feel everything all at once
While replaying every time I hurt you,
Letting your emotions blind you
Without seeing that I am the one getting the best of you.
