Whispers of the Unshed

Silenced by a Blinding Rage

If only silence could speak.

You would hear me cry out

From the dreadful deep,

Of my subconscious that tells me,

Men can’t weep.

Keeping the sadness buried,

While holding back my tears.

Battling the torment of the voices

That would tell me I am weak

For wanting help or shedding even one tear.

So I turn to you,

The one thing that gives me strength in my darkest hour.

RAGE, You’re my double edge sword

Whose bite is always bigger than its bark.

Offering me a way out of my suffering,

But at what cost?

Seeing only red, losing myself,

And everything I hold dear.

Lashing out, wishing someone would sit me down

And tell me, “Everything will be okay, my dear”.

And without judgment

Let me open these floodgates

So my eyes could pour down like heavy rain.

If only silence could speak,

But I’m a man who has to stand on his own.

So I’ll continue to hide you, Sadness

Behind all this rage, testosterone,

And all my manly ways.

This was beautifully written and incredibly powerful!!! The emotional depth and honesty really struck me. I appreciate how you gave voice to a struggle that’s so often overlooked how silence and suppressed emotion can eat away at someone, especially under the weight of toxic masculinity. The contrast between vulnerability and rage was portrayed so well. Thank you for sharing something so raw and real.

Powerful and raw expression! Very relatable. Intense and consuming on how rage can be.

This piece really hits home. The struggle of hiding emotions is something many can relate to. I've been there, trying to keep it together. It makes me wonder, though, at what point do we realize that it's okay to let those emotions out? Is there a better way to deal with anger than using it as a shield for sadness? We should talk more about breaking these harmful patterns.
