My words can cut like knives
Or heal wounded souls
They have the power
To enact dynamic change
So I must choose them wisely
Instead of slinging them around in anger
Haphazardly wounding those I love
Like my mother did to me
Instead I will mend my child's broken pieces
I'll stitch together phrases that will calm his beating heart
Never will I use them to make him think
He's not good enough
Though of course
I possess the capability to kill with words
Dig up your deepest fears and present them as truth
I can murder a mind
But I choose to give life and love
That is true power
