The Poison of Youth

Time is the Inadequate Antidote

"The Poison of Youth"

The fury of youth smoldered deep inside,

A ruthless poison one need not imbibe,

Difficult's the search for a place to hide,

And a time when none had cared if you cried.

The poison of youth runs hot.

Flow slows, forever it's not.

Time smooths like an untied knot.

I remember the surging lonely rage,

Though despite my long years, I am no sage,

How the world surrounded you like a cage,

But in your book of life its but a page!

The poison of youth runs hot.

Flow slows, forever it's not.

Time smooths like an untied knot.

Feelings settle down, a blanket of snow,

Your identity? You would like to know!

You search for a welcoming place to go,

Fragile young heart runs to and fro.

The poison of youth runs hot.

Flow slows, forever it's not.

Time smooths like an untied knot.

Tragedy, fear, I remember it all,

Unaccepted, always waiting to fall,

One quiet truth when you're against the wall,

"Better to have lived than never at all!"

The poison of youth runs hot.

Its flow slows, forever it's not.

Time smooths like an untied knot.

Standing at the edge of insanity,

A bright soul filled full of fragility,

Do not give up on your ability,

Or drown in a whirlpool of self-pity!

The poison of youth runs hot

Flow slows, forever it's not,

Time smooths like an untied knot.

No matter how often it all seems bleak,

Take it all slow, day by day, week by week,

Never let yourself feel you cannot speak,

Trust that time will bring you the peace you seek.

The poison of youth less hot.

It grows slow, forever it's not.

Time's smooth, a full untied knot.

Years pass, growth, all part of the antidote,

It has been decades past since this I wrote,

Youth as poison, let my nostalgia note,

You can survive the dose, *that* you can quote!

The time of youth passes fast.

Slow flow ahead, forever's past.

Time smooths, peaceful at long last.

Enjoy it kid while you can, don't get caught!

Soon enough, much too fast comes what you sought -

As real as the pain is, it's not for naught,

Cherish your time, like a bright gold ingot!

The longs days of youth fly by.

To forever, say goodbye.

Time smooths gentle, clear blue sky.

That unthinking rage will yet come again,

As you drift closer to life's bitter end,

Believing youth is the thing that will mend...

Once more you become your only true friend.

The elixir of youth runs hot.

Its slows old, forever not.

Time's cruel like a hangman's knot.

Come what may young and old, come full circle,

All of it has been a true miracle!

A life well-lived has made a spectacle,

Don't let self-consciousness be a shackle!

The verve of youth will run out.

Life slows, it's forever's clout.

Time's sand's falling end; you shout!

The sorrow of age, shattered dreams lied,

Old days aren't the promised paradise ride,

Faster past you the sands of time will slide,

You'll wonder if anyone cares you died.

The poison of youth moved on.

Its flow stopped, forever gone.

Time's relentless, like the dawn.
