The Poinsettia That Blooms Year after Year
An ode to a lovely poinsettia plant

Of all the flowers blooming now,
the toast of the season is poinsettia.
My neighbors vary widely,
in their ethnicity, culture,
religious beliefs, financial status,
but in this festive season,
every porch has one thing in common,
a potted red poinsettia!
The vibrant bracts,
the Christmas symbolism,
is a feast for the eyes.
The holidays will be over,
they will be discarded,
just like the conifer tree.
Only a few will be planted,
by plant enthusiasts.
On my neighborhood walks,
I saw the above tall poinsettia,
with beautiful blooms.
It was mesmerizing, unique,
not run-of-the-mill-kind
not ephemeral, purchased for a season,
but that grows on the ground,
blooming year after year.
