Late summer in the rainforest
of the Pacific Northwest.
A hike on a dirt trail
flanked by ferns,
beneath a canopy of,
giant, old maples,
moss and lichen on the trunks,
raindrops dripping —
a hall of greenery,
spooky, and surreal.
Yes, drenched and wet,
with slugs not far from my shoes,
I craved a dry cabin,
and a hot drink,
But it was a unique experience,
a privilege to walk
the verdant paradise,
I cherish it fondly.
It’s the era of climate emergency,
all biomes are threatened.
The temperate rainforest,
is one of the smallest.
We must educate ourselves
and tread lightly, to save them,
and in this process, us.
