The Poetry of Letting Go
And a new start. The Road drops here.

🛣️ The Road Dropping...mused Cal
"Mom, Dad...I hope there is cake"!
He heard them laugh. "Of course there
will be cake later".
They had gifted him a Book...A Book...
Cal was not an avid reader.
He opened it and began reading.
...
The road drops not with thunder,
but with a hush -
a breath held between dusk and dawn.
Eighteen candles flicker like distant headlights,
each one a mile marker
in the rearview of childhood.
The asphalt stretches,
no longer a looped cul-de-sac
but a ribbon unraveling
into fog and freedom.
The yellow line splits the silence -
a promise, a warning,
a pulse.
You hold the book like a compass,
its cover a prophecy:
lonely road, overcast sky,
the kind of beauty that asks
not for answers,
but for motion.
Mom and Dad wrote in blue ink -
not to guide,
but to bless the letting go.
Their love tucked between pages
like a map folded too many times
to be precise.
And so the road drops.
Not beneath your feet,
but behind your eyes...
where memory meets momentum,
and the journey begins
with a turning page.
....
Cal held the book open for a long moment
He re-read the poem, imagining the possibilities ahead

He got up from his perch on his bed...sighing as he begins to bid it
goodbye...
He sits on the couch between his parents, holding the hand of each.
"Thank you for everything".
They both turn to hug him...
Their roads all tilting differently
One towards a beginning.
The other towards finding the strength
To let go!

Lovely work Antoni! 🩷🧡🩷🧡
I like how he was all innocent. Wanting there to be cake when the road drops. I like how the rhymes came in at 'avid reader' Makes me also think that cal is not going to be okay. I like how he opened the book and started to read your words. That's clever. Especially for this challenge. And in your words you led us into a book that we could hold like a compass. A book that has a cover as prophecy. Ooo the beauty asks for motion. This is a very good concept. That line might very well be one of my favourites in this piece. The ending was beautiful. Mother and father letting go. Cal going towards a new beginning. All the best on the challenge Antoni 🤗❤️
I really loved how the imagery of the road and the book carried through.
This is so beautifully written. I love the final sentences. A beginning and a letting go.
