The Place That Shaped me
My little ode to Elk County
Though I might not call you home,
The rolling hills provide a beautiful backdrop under a sunshine dome.
The trees provide oxygen for me to breathe.
Breath taking sites for all to see,
Snow covered mountains, sounds echoing through the valley,
Spring time flowers, soon enough to be sprouting.
Wildlife roaming free,
Elk and dear, when it’s warmer, plenty of bees.
Though you are not my home, a part of my heart will always be here.
Still an area where my mind can be clear.
Little towns and bigger Burroughs;
A place where I can take a furlough.
Happy places and happy faces.
May be unsure, but I embrace it.
You may not be home, but entertaining.
A place that helped shape me.
You’ll always be a floor in my house of knowledge,
Whether I’m a billionaire, broke, or in college.
The years I’ve spent living within your borders,
Are years well spent, with sights and sure order.
I can’t call you home, my heart belongs somewhere else,
But you certainly are worth it, you helped me get outta hell.
You’re a beautiful area, even fun to be in.
I’ll still visit on holidays and some weekends.
When I’m gone from here and it’s time to go,
There’s just something I hope you know.
I won’t forget you Elk County.
Thank you for shaping me into the man I am today.

I have been writing poetry and song lyrics for years. I wish to pursue a career in music. However, with all of my one off poems written, I felt the need to share those as well.
