Inside me, standing solid as can be
A pillar
Not tall, but short
wider at the top then at the base
Like all I would have to do is push it over
and it would crumple into pieces
The pillar is of grey
holding sadness and grief
As if it took a lost dream
and planted at my core
Every time I feel it
A tear wells in my eye
But I won't follow through with it
I can't be too sure why.
~
What are you made of
tears and pain
a deep longing
unsatisfied while sitting in the rain
are you, what I am?
it stands before me
I reach my hand out
my fingers glide along the smooth surface
I feel small somehow
I look up, it is taller that before
~
My claw catches
there is a crack in the surface
My eyes shift to its place
Something black oozes out
slowly
it is thick and sticky
The rain does not wash it away
I wish someone would turn on the lights
so I could see more than in black and grey
maybe then I would notice
I'm just a koala in a eucalyptus tree

Google says: Eucalyptus trees have sap which is often called "kino" and is a thick, resinous liquid that serves to seal wounds, protect against insects, and protect against fungal infections.

“Dreams hold my soul, and I hold them like a mast. Deep in my heart I hold them below, tightly, like the Virgin Mary.” Know that this made my heart leap. My home is located on a hill, and below it a village spreads out in view. Between us, however—just a few meters from my house—there are many eucalyptus trees; I would call it a forest. Their scent is exquisite, and in the summers I sit for hours beneath their shade. It truly is a paradise, and their branches intertwine like paintings. They close my wounds. I could write so much more, because I am very emotional about the memories they awaken.
This is such a unique and moving piece. The koala moment made me smile. 💛
This reads like a vivid, emotional journey—haunting but beautifully expressed. The imagery of the pillar, the rain, and the final twist with the koala is unexpected and powerful.
