The Pen

The satisfying click, the smooth roll of the pen 

its ink a deeply rich black glides across the page

Just one word written 

yet feels like magic, a writer's bliss

ordinary handwriting is transformed into beautiful penmanship

each twirl and curve of l's and s's

each elaborate dot of i's and j's 

the satisfying grip of the pen against my fingers

as my creative mind searches for the next words

And then to my frustration, 

I lost my favorite pen

there's no other one like it, I'm sure

I tried other pens but they don't compare

words don't come out like before

In reluctance I pick up a blue ink pen

its ink glides across the paper 

but its not the same, doesn't feel the same 

My mind feels barren, no pen

thus no imagination

but was it really ever the pen?
