The Path to Comfort
On finding comfort even when it's hard
Mind unable to rest
full of thoughts
both good and bad
Scattered thoughts that won't slow down
No matter how elusive or how distant
No matter how unlikely it seems
know that there are ways to find comfort
To welcome it
among the noise
among the chaos
Simply close your eyes
inhale the air slowly
Notice the scent of lavender? Of warm vanilla and cardamom?
Have you found comfort already?
Ease back and feel the warmth of a hot bath
the tickle of bubbles against your body
Let the stream of a hot shower cascade down your back
comforting your body
calming your mind
Have you found comfort yet?
Among the noise?
Among the chaos?
Close your eyes and wrap your hands around a favorite mug
Feel the soothing warmth of the hot beverage it contains
Of herbal jasmine, lemon balm, and chamomile
the rich aroma of hot chocolate
Take some time
close your eyes
steal a moment of solitude
And maybe among all the noise
and among all the chaos,
you'll find the comfort you've been looking for

The Lesions of Devotion
Every day I set myself down on the freshly cut lawn and strip myself bare. I take my guitar and finger the frets and pick at the strings, listening for dissonance. My life is dissonance. I twist the tuning pegs until each string sounds bright. Then I kneel, calves pointing behind me, kneecaps facing forward. All exposed to the breeze. I close my eyes and play the melody.
