The Path That Feels Like Home

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished about 8 hours ago 2 min read

Verse 1

I’ve been learning how to walk without the weight I used to bear,

Letting go of every echo that was never mine to wear.

There’s a softness in the morning when the world is barely lit,

Where the quiet feels like mercy and my soul can finally sit.

I don’t need to run for shelter, don’t need storms to prove I’m strong—

I just follow where the peace is, and the peace leads me along.

Chorus

I’m living gently,

Keeping my heart slow and free.

I’m protecting my peace

Like a garden meant for me.

I’m walking softly

Down the road my spirit knows—

I’m following the path

That feels the most like home.

Verse 2

There were years I kept on fighting battles no one ever won,

Chasing voices that were louder than the whisper of the One.

But the truth is in the stillness, in the breath between the fears,

In the way the soul grows quieter the more the heart clears.

Now I choose the tender places, where the noise can’t reach my bones,

Where the light falls through the branches and the journey feels like home.

Chorus

I’m living gently,

Keeping my heart slow and free.

I’m protecting my peace

Like a garden meant for me.

I’m walking softly

Down the road my spirit knows—

I’m following the path

That feels the most like home.

Bridge

Let the world keep spinning wild, let the restless chase their fire—

I’ve got nothing left to prove and nothing left to hire.

I’ve got room for quiet blessings, room for grace to take its throne,

Room to hear the voice that tells me I am safe, I am known.

Verse 3

So I’ll keep my footsteps steady, keep my boundaries clean and kind,

Keep my heart a sacred dwelling where the weary parts unwind.

And if the road grows dark or lonely, I’ll remember what I’ve learned—

Peace is not a place you stumble; it’s a place you must return.

And I’ll walk there without hurry, trusting every stone and loam—

For the path that God keeps lighting is the one that feels like home.

Final Chorus

I’m living gently,

Keeping my heart slow and free.

I’m protecting my peace

Like a garden meant for me.

I’m walking softly

Down the road my spirit knows—

I’m following the path

That feels the most like home.

Outro

And every quiet step I take

Leads me closer to my own—

I’m living gently, loving wisely,

On the path that feels like home.

If you ever want a darker, more Appalachian‑gothic version of this, or a more hymn‑like devotional version, I can shape it that way too.

I love this version…so peaceful And a light poem. That is a great reminder to breathe and let go of the heaviness and walk light.
