The one lesson Mother gave me.

Thanks Ma, I kept my doors open because you taught me to.

Mother, Mum, Ammi, Aai, madre, mami, MA, she has many names, many faces, many voices, many vices.

Ma is only human who learned things from her ma and so on it goes.

My Ma taught me to use all 6 of my senses to the fullest.

Eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin and feel.

She has always been good with these things,

She knows how to be gentle with every human being.

She's gifted with empathy, kindness and a magic touch,

She has an extremely strong hunch.

The lesson started young, when I was a cranky ol' teen, who didn't wanna eat the burnt tomato my Nani (grandma) made, she taught me to use my taste buds and taste the love Nani put into it while cooking.

I tasted the love Nani put into those tomatoes, curing them all day in the sun, Making the perfect pickle for her loved ones.

I tasted sweet love in those bitter black tomatoes.

Papa (father) came home tired from work and 4 year old me wanted to play with him, Ma, taught me to see, see my Papa's strength, strength in the man who worked 12 hours a day and never forgot to show up everyday, again and again making sure we saw him. I saw, saw him be a hero for his children. Setting the bar high for his daughter, Teaching his son how to be stronger. I would not have seen if it was not for my mothers eyes,

That's how my Ma taught me the use of my eyes.

Ma taught me to listen, listen to the pain behind silences, listen to the feelings unsaid, listen to what the heart had to say. When my friend was down, and I didn't understand what their heart had to say, my Ma translated those words for me to understand, she taught me to just sit and listen, truly,

from the heart listen.

without any conditions, listen.

without any judgements, I listened.

Focused on the words unsaid, listen to not only the words that fall off the mouth but the words all 6 senses had to say,

notice the tremble in the voice, sweaty clenched fists, The eyes drowning in oceans of sorrow.

My Ma, taught me to listen.

Ma taught me to sit and smell the roses, no, she taught me to stop and smell the Raat- Raani (Night- blooming jasmine) on our morning walks,

Appreciate the essence of the fallen flowers we walked by each morning while on my way to school.

To smell the gas leak, as it could be dangerous.

Ma taught me to sense danger and peace. Ma taught me to smell.

Ma taught me to stop, to sit and appreciate life for what its worth,

So I did, I enjoyed every sunset I could, I heard every wave that hit the shore,

I felt the wind in my hair and the sand between my toes. I smelt the fishy sea, and I hugged. The kind of hug Ma taught me to give, the kind that takes away the pain, the pain that the heart experiences.

Now I know what emotions looks like,

Now I know what smiles feel like,

Now I know what love tastes like,

Now I know what happiness smells like,

Now I know what hurt sounds like,

Now I know how warm is my Heart.

I've hugged my loved ones, My friends and Foes,

My arms have seen people come and go,

but, Ma taught me to never close the door.

Ma's vice is to see me grow.

To answer the question here, Ma Taught me one lesson of science,

I am sorry, 'is' teaching me a lesson in science, science of the mind, science of the kind.

I don't know when the lesson began, I hope it never truly ends.
