Prologue:

This is everyone’s favourite time of year because of the peace it brings. We often think of it as hard to get, and in these times, it is- but it really doesn’t take much at all.

Peace is in the little things. Enjoy this poem.

*************************************************************

The Nutcracker sits atop our tree

A quiet toy, in silence sees

Dust settled thickly on his coat

A worn toy of Yuletide note

*************************************************************

Overlooked, on branch so high

He watches faces that go by

Their hands reach for brand new things

While he yearns what memories bring

*************************************************************

Yet, in his silent reverie,

Season’s warmth the soldier sees

A mother hugs her child with love

The stars that lead her high above

*************************************************************

An umbrella shared, white birds in flight,

Children playing ‘neath the light

No grand gestures, a gentle touch

Trite, true acts that mean so much

*************************************************************

Though he doesn’t march with pride

He sees the peace that moves inside -

For the simple touch, the warmth of hand

More valued than the loudest plan

*************************************************************

The Nutcracker sits there, unseen

But in kind hearts, he stays serene

His proud march, a quiet thing

The truest peace, it surely brings.

I agree with this so much! The little things, Michelle! They all add up. Like the idea of the Nutcracker as a benevolent watcher too

I've adored Nutcrackers since I was a young girl, and I love your poem. Nutcrackers are so much a part of the holiday for me.

This poem is a beautiful and poignant reflection on the enduring power of tradition and the quiet moments of joy. The Nutcracker, a symbol of Christmas cheer, becomes a silent observer of the changing times, reminding us of the simple pleasures and heartfelt connections that truly matter. very well done!
