The Nightmare

"Full Moon" Entry; Free Verse

By Margo BlackPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read

Awoken from sound slumber by strange whispers in her ear,

To a room set aglow in red as shadows dance along the walls.

Peeling free of their plaster prison,

Shadows transform into blackened figures.

Struck frozen by sheer terror,

Bed & blanket now her cell.

Cries for help fail to form,

She's gagged by her own locked jaw.

Dark forms draw closer as blank faces seek out hers.

Tears flow as internal fights to flee continue on.

Suddenly, a bright white light then jostling releases her of invisible bonds.

Embraced while shaking and crying, comes the passing thought -

Until next time, my sleep demons.

About the Creator

Margo Black

I am a born story teller, creating stories before I could read or write. My mom would write down my words and then I would illustrate the pages. As I grew, I discovered poetry, song writing, and horror genre. I hope to find my voice again.

  • This is one intense poem. It's like being helpless and feeling hopeless then suddenly help arrives and you're released from the terror. Excellent work Margo!!!
