The Mystery Light in the Sky

I looked out the back door into the dark sky

And I couldn't believe my eyes

An eerie glow was shimmering this night

And filled my heart with fear and delight

My 10-year-old brain was excited to see

What might be a UFO looking at me

The bright yellow glimmer was small and round

I listened but never heard a sound

I watched for a while, then went to sleep

Praying the Lord my soul to keep

After dark on the following night

I saw the same fluorescent light

I was too scared to tell anyone

But when the next day had begun

I walked up to my cousin's home on the hill

My heart sank, and time stood still

The daylight now clearly revealed

What during the night had been concealed

What I had thought was a UFO

Giving off a mysterious glow

Was a new lantern hanging high

There had been no aliens in the sky

A light on the porch was what I had seen

Such a let down my eyes had not been keen
