The Morning Hours
A poem by Alisha Maree Souldancer

The Morning Hours
Magnolia light shines through my window on a perfect morning glory morning.
I am mesmerised watching dust fairies dance and sparkle, careless and free.
Thank God for dusty floors.
Maud is quietly purring, she is curled on the tangerine crotchet throw at the end of the bed.
Maud is quite a cranky cat, though for the moment she is content here in this cool room.
A soft breeze floats lemon linen curtains,
the scent of honey suckle blossoms and mint mixed with sunlight draws me to the window.
The chickens are out scratching around on the dewy ground. Mavis the black speckle bantam is chasing a lavender moth across the garden, she is very determined.
The garden hedge by the water lily pond is overflowing with nasturtiums, the abundance of orange truly brings joy to my soul.
Orange is my favourite colour.
Maud has woken and is weaving herself around my legs and meowing loudly
It is time to feed her before she gets herself too worked up.
I will make tea and drink it at the old silky oak table with the faded blue tablecloth embroidered with daisies that my grandmother made.
It is here at this table that I will write today if my muse is willing.
The morning hours are the very best of the day, each one is a blessing to my heart and I take the time to enjoy each wondrous one.
