The Moon And I

I converse regularly with the moon, a nightly chat

As we are both lovers of the wild and untamed,

I am in awe of all the things we have in common

As we chat about the night, our lives are the same.

We speak in our own language, privacy guaranteed

Whereas my heart howls to the moon in our code,

Knowing she will be the only one to totally understand

And her laugh at my antics ensures the stars explode.

I jealously guard my dreams and my terrifying fears

Bathing them within her bright light and silhouette,

Keeping them safe from judgemental eyes and ears

As she is the only one I trust, she’d never be a threat.

***

The moon and I are free to discuss our darkness

We both feel we are not much more than a sliver,

As we hide our faces on the dark side of the moon

She promises acceptance, doing her best to deliver.

***

My friend, the moon shines upon me in her glory

In a way that ensures only I can ever understand,

So I shelter my love, buried deeply within myself

Protecting us both from lies and deceitful hands.

***

I would happily share this love with a special other

If they can be authentic with us, I will never deny,

Non judgemental, free to be authentically real

But only for someone who’re like the moon and I.
